Newcastle invited to walk for women recovering from breast cancer
The Hunter community is being invited to walk in support of local women at YWCA Hunter Region’s Walk for ENCORE, held at Empire Park, Bar Beach, on Saturday 31 October 2026.
The annual community event raises funds and awareness for ENCORE, a free eight-week exercise and education program supporting women following breast cancer surgery and treatment.
Delivered across five Hunter locations, ENCORE combines specially designed exercise, practical information and peer support to help women rebuild their strength, mobility, confidence and wellbeing.
With demand continuing to exceed the number of available places, funds raised through the Walk will help more Hunter women access this important recovery support free of charge.
YWCA Hunter Region Executive Director Caz O’Brien said the Walk provided a meaningful way for the community to support women beyond their initial cancer treatment.
“Finishing treatment does not mean the recovery journey is over. Many women continue to experience physical and emotional challenges long after treatment ends. For over 25 years, ENCORE has been providing a supportive environment where women can rebuild their strength, regain confidence and connect with others who truly understand their experience.
“Walk for ENCORE brings our community together to ensure this life-changing program remains accessible to every woman who needs it. Every step taken and every dollar raised helps more local women on their journey to recovery, resilience and renewed confidence.”
Individuals, families, community groups and workplace teams are encouraged to register, walk and fundraise. Participants can walk in celebration, in support of someone they know or simply to help more women access ENCORE.
Current and former ENCORE participants are available for media interviews and photography, offering personal perspectives on recovery after breast cancer treatment and the difference that movement, practical support and connection can make.
