Maitland councillors voice support for $46 million grant submission
Maitland City Council will lodge a $46 million grant submission to fund major infrastructure upgrades in the Thornton North urban growth precinct and the wider city following support from councillors on 13 August ordinary council meeting.
Council has resolved to submit a $33 million grant application under the Regional Precincts and Partnerships Program (RPPP) and the Housing Support Program for several projects in Thornton North, including $25 million for the Haussman Drive intersection and $5 million for a sportsground in Sophia Waters.
Council also resolved to apply for $13 million under the Housing Support Program to help fund Stage 3 of the ongoing transformation of Maitland Resource Recovery Facility on Mount Vincent Road.
Maitland City Council General Manager Jeff Smith says these ‘are key pieces of infrastructure for the people of Thornton, Chisholm and the wider Maitland community.’
‘We’re seeking funding support so we can provide crucial upgrades for the people of Thornton and Chisholm which is a key growth area in need of improved transport links, housing, and sporting and recreation opportunities,’ Mr Smith said.
‘Now that Council has agreed to support this motion, we will progress the application process and are hopeful of a successful outcome.’
Council will now finalise a business case for these grants, before submitting a final application.
