Newcastle to gain massive international coverage with Asia Cup games
The AFC Asian Cup, Asia’s biggest football tournament is coming to Australia in January 2015. Five cities will host 32 world class football matches over 23 days, culminating with the Final to be played at Stadium Australia on 31 January 2015.
Hunter Stadium will host four world class football matches including a Semi Final and the 3rd and 4th Play Off from January 12-30.
The games will provide Newcastle with immense media coverage, both across Australia and internationally. Tens of thousands of tourists and media will be visiting Newcastle and the event is expected to have a viewing audience of in excess of 1 billion.
The 16 nations to qualify for AFC Asian Cup Australia 2015 are Australia as hosts, defending champions Japan, Korea Republic and 2012 AFC Challenge Cup winners DPR Korea, along with Bahrain, China, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Palestine.
The tournament is being financially supported by the Australian Government and the NSW, Victorian, Queensland and ACT Governments. Fox Sports will broadcast the AFC Asian Cup throughout Australia.
