Chinese visitors in town for global exchange

In a first for Hunter TAFE, more than 30 Masters students from Ningxia University in China visited Newcastle for an eight week Study Tour during July. The students came to the Hunter as part of a language and cultural exchange where they completed a comprehensive 8-week course at Hunter TAFE’s award-winning Newcastle English Language Centre.
The visit allowed for some downtime, and the students also got a taste of Australian culture with an Aboriginal smoking ceremony, a whale watching cruise off the Newcastle coast, and a chance to get up-and-close with our local wildlife at the Australian Reptile Park. They also visited universities in both Sydney and Melbourne during the tour.
The Masters students come from a diverse background of study fields including foreign languages, politics and law, resources and environment, economics, humanities, mathematics and computer science.
Hunter TAFE CEO, Christine Warrington said the International Study Tour is the first of this kind for the institute and was welcomed with strong support from both the local and international education community.
